Children’s Mental Health Week
IT’S CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK – THE MOST IMPORTANT WEEK OF THE YEAR!
At Summerdale, we are passionate about supporting children’s mental health. Over the past few years we have built a dedicated list of titles for children aged 4–16 years to help support emotional development and boost feelings of self-worth and confidence. All of us at Summersdale are either parents, aunts, uncles, godparents or cousins and we have all seen how the pandemic has impacted the young people in our lives, and it’s fantastic to learn that our books are making a big difference to children and their families right now.
Here are just a couple of the thousands of five-star reviews we have received on Amazon:
“This is amazing. My son opened this up and bawled his eyes out because it was the first thing that fully understood how he felt. It’s now helping him and us all work through his anxiety”
for Don’t Worry, Be Happy: A Child’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety
“My children seem to be born worriers (much like their mum) and I can honestly say that this book is a life saver”
for The Worry Workbook: The Worry Warriors’ Activity Book
The backbone to our list is the “Monster Mental Health” series for children aged 7 and over. These fun and engaging activity books help children explore their emotions and understand how they make their mind and body feel.
Other standout titles include the Workbooks, with topics on worry, happiness, confidence and finding calm. We have a new range of picture books for early readers, which introduces a cheeky sausage dog called Murray, who, with the help of his friend Hoots the owl, learns to manage his worries and find ways to calm down. We also have a range of affirmation cards designed to help children feel empowered, a series for teens on mental health topics, and some brilliant standalone titles, including A Girl’s Guide to Being Awesome, and a fun journal to fill in with friends called This is Me!
The underlying message in all of our children’s mental health titles is that it’s OK to feel all emotions, and they all have a purpose. Every child is different and we hope that our books and cards can be a source of support and comfort to any child who might have mental health needs as well as being a helping hand to develop emotional awareness and healthy habits for the rest of their lives.
All children deserve to be heard and know that they are special. Make sure you tell the young people in your life how wonderful they are!
